Get Admitted to Your Dream University – Monash University

Established in 1958 Monash University is a public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the second oldest university in the state. Just like the Ivy League, Oxbridge and Russel group, Australia also has its own group of top 8 prestigious universities, known as the “Group of Eight” OR “Go8”. Monash is one of these Universities.

The university has a number of campuses, four of which are in Victoria (Clayton, Caulfield, Peninsula, and Parkville).

  • Clayton- The Clayton campus covers an area over 1.1 km2 and is the largest of the Monash campuses. Clayton is the flagship campus for Monash, demanding higher ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) scores than all the other campuses. Clayton is home to the faculties of Arts, Business & Economics, Education, Engineering, IT, Law, Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Pharmaceutical Science and Science.
  • Caulfield- The Caulfield campus is Monash University’s second-largest. Its multifaceted nature is reflected in the range of programs it offers through the faculties of Arts, Art Design & Architecture (MADA), Business & Economics, Information Technology and Medicine, and Nursing and Health Sciences.
  • Peninsula- The Peninsula campus has a teaching and research focus on health and wellbeing, and is a hub of undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Nursing, Health Science, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Psychology – and particularly in Emergency Health (Paramedic) courses. The campus is located in the bayside suburb of Frankston on the edge of Melbourne.
  • Parkville- The Parkville campus is situated in the Melbourne suburb of Parkville, around 2 km north of the Melbourne CBD on Royal Parade. The campus is the home of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The faculty specializes in the areas of formulation science and medicinal chemistry and offers the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science undergraduate degrees.

A. Minimum Admission Requirements

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to Monash University programs are quite competitive with several students applying for each seat. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not guarantee entry into the program.

B. Statement of Purpose (SOP)

It is a crucial part of the application in which students describe their interest in the chosen field of study, their activities and their future plans. Especially in competitive courses like STEM where several students may be competing for admissions to limited seats, the SOP provides valuable insights into the students’ thought process and motivations. While evaluating good students with strong academic performance and comparative GPA, the SOP provides a good way to differentiate between them.

It needs to be unique, explaining their experiences, aspirations, motivation for studying a particular course and a short narrative of their lives beyond academics. SOP for Australian universities like Monash University are majorly focused on the field of study. The students need to show enthusiasm in their chosen course and how they can make a revolutionary transformation in that subject/area. Letters of recommendation (LoR) aren’t required for undergraduate admissions, but you can be asked to submit 1 LoR if need be on the basis of the chosen subject.
