When moving into your dorm, make sure you have a list of all the essentials that you’ll need. Make a list of toiletries, room needs and other miscellaneous items. Being organized will ensure that you don’t find yourself scrambling and running to the nearest Target because you missed something. Don’t add any extra items that you might not need, stick to the basic essentials.
#2 Don’t Splurge on Textbooks
You will be expected to purchase textbooks for most of your classes. In case you are unable to find a pdf version of your textbook, don’t rush to Amazon, instead check Facebook. Renting or buying the second-hand textbook will help you save a lot of money.
#3 Join Clubs and Other Activities
One of the best ways to meet people and make friends in college is through an extracurricular. Check out the clubs and organizations that your college has. Join any activity that piques your interest, you’ll meet many likeminded individuals. Additionally, getting involved on campus is one of the best ways to beat stress.
#4 Get to Know Your Professors
In a class filled with hundreds of students, you cannot expect to form a bond with your professor unless you take initiative. Attend their office hours and schedule one on one time with them so that you can form a better connection with them. Also meet your TAs and don’t hesitate to ask questions
#5 Ask for Help When You Need It
Everyone is figuring stuff out and so you shouldn’t feel like you are the only one who is struggling. You should feel free to ask for help whenever you need it, be it related to academics or mental health.
#6 Staying Safe on Campus
Learn about all the safety resources on campus to know all that your college has to offer. Always be aware of your surroundings, especially after dark. Furthermore, stay updated on the crime rates near you.
